Repeal will save money: Andanar

Congressmen of the Negros Island Region have joined the appeal for President Rodrigo Duterte to retain the NIR pending a shift towards a federal form of government.

Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ.,3 rd District) yesterday said he is almost sure the 10 Negros congressmen and some partylist representatives will also push for the retention of NIR as a federal state when the time comes, which will be advantageous to Negros from an economic perspective, and makes sense from the social and cultural aspect.

Rep. Greg Gasataya (Bacolod) said nine of 10 NIR congressmen signed the letter they sent to the president for the retention of the NIR. moremoremore

Bacolod SP joins appeal

A resolution appealing to President Rodrigo Duterte not to pursue the proposed abolition of the Negros Island Region and reconsider allocating the budget needed for its establishment, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

The resolution, authored by Bacolod Councilor Caesar Distrito, said there was information that an executive order will be issued by the Office of the President to dissolve the Negros Island Region.

One of the compelling reasons that were pointed out by Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno is that the P19 billion budget request of the various agencies in the new region, is too costly and could impair the services of the government that needs much priority, it said. moremoremore

Bus markings create uproar

As expected, a bus donation that bears the name and logo of the political campaign slogan of the majority party in Dumaguete City ended up in an exchange of harsh words during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod between members of the minority and majority party recently.

In his own opinion, Councilor Estanislao Alviola said the marking Lupad Dumaguete in the bus donated by Vallacar Transit Inc. is ill advised, unethical and unprofessional, stating that Lupad Dumaguete is a political slogan of the group of Mayor Felipe Remollo..
