dissolving NIR: Diokno
AS NEGROS SOLONS PUSH FOR BUDGET

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to sign an executive order dissolving the newly created Negros Island Region, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said yesterday.

The Manila media quoted Diokno as saying “The EO on the NIR…will be repealed. It's pending at the Office of the President. Anyway, it will be signed anytime soon.”  

This developed as 9 out of 10 NIR congressmen signed a letter addressed to Diokno requesting for the inclusion of the NIR budget in the 2017 national budget.

The NIR was created by virtue of Executive Order 183 Series on 2015 signed by then President Benigno Aquino on May 29, 2015. moremoremore

President Rodrigo Duterte's appointment of Anna Rosario Paner as head of the Sugar Regulatory Administration came as a surprise to industry leaders in Negros Occidental yesterday.

Paner, who is a lawyer, is the vice chairman of the board and managing director of Victorias Milling Co. in Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

Paner has been a private law practitioner since 1996 and is one of the founding partners of Paner Hosaka and Ypil Attorneys-at-Law, the VMC website post about her said.

PPA tightens port security
checks for All Souls Day

MANILA – The Philippine Ports Authority has announced it has tightened security checks in various ports nationwide in preparation for the All Souls Day holiday.

PPA general manager Jay Daniel Santiago said this is in accordance with President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to ensure that passengers are comfortable, safe and secure while at the terminals.

“While the expected influx of passengers is still a couple of weeks away, the PPA this early has already prepared our terminals with the proper safety and security procedures vis-à-vis their comfort and convenience,” he explained...
