R18 murder cases low

Murder cases in the Negros Island Region, also known as Region 18, remained at a minimum, compared to other crimes, in the past eight months of the year, despite the increasing number of extra-judicial killings in the country.

M urder cases represented only three percent of crimes against persons and properties in Negros island from January to August, records of the Police Regional Office 18 show.

The PRO 18 recorded 267 cases of murder, which is equivalent to three percent of the total reported index crimes, or crimes against person and properties, in the same period.

There were 12,193 index crimes reported from January to August last year, and 9,817 in the same period this year, with a difference of 2,736.

Cases of physical injuries topped the list of crimes committed with 5,352, theft – 2,728, robbery -776, rape – 285, carnapping – 243 and homicide -115.

The Philippine National Police reported that 1,276 drug personalities were killed in the intensified campaign of the government against illegal drugs as of last month, with 22 recorded in Negros island.

The crime volume in NIR also dropped by 3,590 incidents, from 37,935 last year to 34,3456 this year, PRO 18 records further showed.

Chief Inspector Dianne Grace Catedral, Public Information Officer of the Police Regional Office 18, also reported yesterday an increase in crime solution efficiency, as well accomplishment in the anti-drug campaign.

A total of 680 drug personalities were arrested in the region, while P6.2 million worth of prohibited drugs was seized, while more than 25, 444 drug users and pushers, surrendered from July to September this year.

The PRO 18 has described the war on drugs by the Police Regional Office 18 in the Negros Island Region in the past 100 days as a “huge success.”*GPB
