MANILA -- Philippine peso ended yesterday on sideways finishing at 48.36 against a US dollar.
It slightly shed by P0.06 from last week's closing of 48.30 to a dollar. The local currency opened the day stronger at 48.25 from Friday's opening at 48.36. It traded between 48.20 and 48.38, bringing the average level for the day at 48.28. Volume of trade reached $299 million at the start of the week.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closed lower Monday, dropping by 0.57 percent or 43.58 points to 7,534.71 points.
All subsectors ended the day in the red led by holding firms which fell by 0.95 percent to 71.91 points to 7,519.16 points followed by industrial which declined by 0.55 percent; services, down by 0.48 percent; mining and oil, down by 0.19 percent; property, down by 0.09 percent; and financials, down by 0.01 percent.
Broader all shares index likewise fell by 0.33 percent or 14.82 points to 4,489.69 points.
Volume of trade reached 646.65 million with value of trade at P4.99 billion.
Decliners outnumbered advancers at 103 to 60 while 53 closed unchanged in the local bourse.*PNA
