A former local basketball star and now Barangay 35 captain in Bacolod City, and two members of prominent families, were arrested in a buy-bust operation inside an inn, the name of which the agents withheld, at Liroville Subdivision in Barangay Singcang-Airport in the city, at about 7 last night.
Nabbed by members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency were Barangay 35 captain Manuel “Maui” Huelar Jr., Christian Joseph Mijares, 20, of Pontevedra, and Joshua Roberto Arroyo, in his early 20s, of La Carlota in Negros Occidental.
Seized from Huelar, who was the target of the operation and was under monitoring by the PDEA, were a plastic sachet of suspected shabu worth P500 as buy-bust item, and P1,000 worth of shabu, PDEA Negros Island regional director Julius Navales said.
Pursuant to a Civil Service Commission order, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia has reinstated 10 employees of the Bacolod City government who were illegally dismissed by former mayor Monico Puentevella in February.
