San Enrique workers
negative for drugs
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The warning of San Enrique Mayor Jilson Tubillara to all local government officials and employees of the municipality that they will be dismissed from the service if they test positive for the use of drugs, may have been enough for them to stay away from illegal substances.

Tubillara said yesterday that all of the 243 local officials, including the mayor, vice-mayor and councilors, municipal employees, traffic enforcers, Bantay Dagat personnel and barangay health workers, tested negative for drug use.

Representatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency yesterday witnessed the drug testing of San Enrique municipal officials and employees after the traditional flag-raising ceremony.

Tubillara said the surprise drug testing aimed to determine if anyone among them was using prohibited drugs.

Everybody cooperated in the the drug testing, he added.

Personnel of the San Enrique Police Station were also subjected to drug testing by the PNP, Tubillara said.

He also revealed that the cash reward system for the arrest of drug personalities, has been effective, and had led to the apprehension of some drug suspects, who continued to defy the anti-drug campaign of the police.

Tubillara, however, did not give the specific amount he gave to those who provided the information that led to the arrest of the drug suspects.* GPB
