About P1.3 million in cell phones of varied brands, cards and accessories were reported stolen by still unidentified suspects from a phone distributor in Dumaguete City yesterday morning.
The suspects ransacked the Pick and Carry store along Perdices Street in the city, and the incident was discovered by utility man Rommel Siason Dicon, 24, married, of Mampas in Valencia town, Negros Oriental, when he opened the store at about 8:21 a.m. yesterday.
Investigations showed that Dicon noticed that the rollup door was already opened and that things were scattered inside. He also noticed a vertical hole in the wall of the stockroom, measuring about 26x28 inches and a horizontal hole in the comfort room, about 30x36 inches.
When he checked the vault, it was already opened with only empty cartons left inside.
Recovered from the store were a wood saw, bonnets, a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas bag, a steel cutter, short pants, an abrasive tape, a utility knife, receipts from Robinsons Handyman, and a Cloud Fon bag.
Investigations disclosed that the suspects may have gained entry through the back of the store by making a hole on the cemented wall of the stockroom with the use of a mallet, and exited through the rooftop of the building.*JG
