to boost Negros tourism

Officials of the departments of Tourism and Local Government pledged to help boost Negros Island Region's tourism industry in a meeting with Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the Capitol in Bacolod City yesterday.

Local Government Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo and Tourism Assistant Secretary Daniel Angelo Mercado, who met with the governor, are in Bacolod for the opening of the 11 th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival at the Negros First Cyber Centre that kicks off today and runs until Saturday.

‘NIR chances 50-50,
lobby continues'

There is a 50-50 chance that the Negros Island Region will be retained, Local Government Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo said yesterday.

President Rodrigo Duterte has not signed an executive order abolishing the NIR, it will be deliberated on by the Cabinet in December, saidHinlo, who met Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the Capitol in Bacolod City.

The lobby for the retention of NIR is ongoing,and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno hasinstructed him to help Negros, said Hinlo, who is from the province. moremoremore

Unpaid teachers
leave for other jobs

Some of the part-time Senior High School teachers of the Negros Oriental State University in Dumaguete City, who remain unpaid for the first semester of this school year, have left to look for other jobs.

This has left some of the students and classrooms without instructors.

SHS students at NORSU said they have had no classes for the past weeks because of the alleged non-payment or non-release of the salaries of their teachers...
