CCTV captures theft
of P.5M at mall store

The theft of a bag containing P540,000 in cash and checks at a store at Robinsons Place Bacolod Friday afternoon was captured on CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras.

Pamela Valderrama, owner of Chez Rose Bacolod, located on the second floor of Robinsons Place Bacolod, who posted the CCTV footage of the suspects on her Facebook page, said a reward is being offered to anyone who may be able to identify them.

Valderrama's daughter, who asked not to be identified, told the DAILY STAR the amount taken was not from the normal operations of Chez Rose, it was an unusually large amount. moremoremore

40 NIR cops probed for drugs

About 40 policemen in the Negros Island Region are being probed by the Police Regional Office 18 for alleged involvement in illegal drugs.

Chief Supt. Renato Gumban, PRO 18 director, said yesterday that their alleged involvement in illegal drugs is being validated at the regional level, before submission to Camp Crame for another validation.

Theidentities of seven PNP members have been withheld but two are police commissioned officers (PCOs), with ranks of chief inspector and senior inspector, and five police non-commissioned officers have already been submitted to Camp Crame for further validation, and subsequent issuance of orders for their relief from PRO 18, Gumban said. moremoremore

DSWD warns elderly
over pension scam

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Negros Island Region has warned senior citizens in Negros Oriental to be vigilant, with a new method of collecting fees from the elderly.

DSWD-NIR OIC director Shalaine Marie Lucero issued the warning after they received reports that unidentified persons, posing as employees of DSWD in Bacolod City, were going house to house and collecting money as senior citizen registration fee, a government press release said recently.

Lucero said the department is not requiring any fee from senior citizens to become beneficiaries of the program and is not doing a house to house survey...
