DPWH NIR fund P10.6B for 2017

QUEZON CITY - The Department of Public Works and Highways budget for the Negros Island Region for 2017 will be P10,626,896,000, or an increase of P1.16 million compared to P9,459,516,768 allocated for this year, OIC Regional Director Lea Delfinado of the DPWH Negros Island Region, said Tuesday.
At the House Special Committee on Visayas Development hearing on the NIR at the RV Mitra Building at the Batasan Complex, Delfinado said that the DPWH budget allocations for its eight district engineering offices in the island region has not been affected.
She said that of the of the P10.6 million budget for next year, allotted for infrastructure in Negros Occidental is P7.1 billion or 67.60 percent, and for Negros Oriental P3.4 billion or 32.40 percent.
The province of Negros Occidental has availed of more World Bank-funded projects from the Philippine Rural Development Project of the Department of Agriculture, with the cities of Sagay and Silay, receiving almost P300 million worth of infrastructure development projects yesterday.
The amount of P154,171,000was allocated for the further expansion of a feeder port and fishing landing in Brgy. Old Sagay, Sagay City, and P145,072,000 for the rehabilitation of Hinicayan to Violeta farm to market roads in Brgy. E.Lopez to Brgy.Kapitan Ramon in Silay City.

Increase in Chinese tourist
arrivals noted in Dumaguete

Chinese tourist arrivals in Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, continue to climb to as many as 400 to 600 a week, Provincial Tourism Officer Myla Mae Abellana-Bromo said.
Because of this, some Chinese tour operators are mulling the possibility of a direct charter flight from Dumaguete to Shanghai, China, Bromo said.
The tour operators from China came to the city last month as they wanted to check the facilities at the Dumaguete airport for a direct charter flight from here to Shanghai and vice versa, Bromo said. .
