‘ Pacman magic' reigns

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao scored a unanimous decision victory against Mexican-American Jessie Vargas yesterday to win the WBO welterweight title for the third time and make his mark as the only elected senator in the world to become a world boxing champion.

At 37, Pacquiao showed hisspeed, footwork, and combination of punches were still there as he flooredthe 27-year-old Vargasin the second of their 12-round fight in front of a crowdof more than 16,000 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

His impressive performance got him a close 114-113 from one of the three judges but the other two gave him an identical 118-109. moremoremore

The crime clock yesterday again stopped ticking in Negros Occidental, as Negrenseswere glued to their television sets watching Philippine boxing icon-turned Senator Manny Pacquiao reclaim the World Boxing Organization welterweight title from Mexican Jessie Vargas, whom he defeated in a 12-round boxing bout in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Senior Supt. William Señoron, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, said yesterday that they had not recorded any crime incident in the provinceduring thePacquiao fight.

2Lt. RevekkaRoperos, 303rd Infantry Brigade Public Information Officer, said last night that there were no untoward incidents reported to them in the same period.

DILG Dumaguete explains
good governance award

The Department of Interior and Local Government in Dumaguete clarified that the city government was among the recipients of the 2015 Seal of Good Local Governance award because it had passed in the evaluation and assessment conducted by national evaluators for its remarkable performance and commitment to the quest for honest and competent local government.

City local government operations officer Farah Diba Gentuya issued the clarification, in response to an invitation by the Sangguniang Panlungsod for her to appear in the next regular session to shed light on the information of Councilor Lilani Ramon that the present administration did a trouble shooting to get the award..
