Asahi downs Colt 45 to punch
semis ticket in Fil-Sino caging

Asahi pulled off a 78-57 win over Colt 45 to advance into the Class B semifinals of the Fil-sino Asia Brewery Invitational Cup Wednesday night at BacolodTay Tung High School Gym.

Landing at No. 2 after the elimination round, Colt 45 was favored to clinch a seat in the semifinals until No. 5 Asahi thwarted them two nights ago.

Devin Dreyful started the rampage for Asahi with 12 points in the first quarter while Ervin Tan backed him up with 6 points as the team led 24-10. Atong Villanueva tried to keep Colt 45 into the game with 8 points.

Asahi continued to dominate the game in the second canto with Aaron Arroyo hitting 12 points of his own for a 41-25 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Emil Guanzon and Timothy Chua combined for 11 points for Colt 45 to cut the deficit to 53-42. Guanzon fired 8 more points in the fourth quarter but lacked the quality support from his teammates as Asahi completed the upset.

Dreyfus finished with 19 points under his name while Arroyo added 18, Tan made 14 points, Edward Uy hit 10, Errol Su produced 6 points, Jan Jan Lopue and Andy Tio with 4 points each.

Guanzon led Colt 45 with 20 points while Villanueva fired 12 markers, Toffel Tan hit 8 points, Ralph Richard Tan , Chua and Ren Ren Lacson made 5 points apiece.

Asahi will face in the semifinals the winner between No. 3 Brewkettle and No. 4 Rotary Club of Metro Bacolod-Nestea Iced Tea.

In Class A encounter, AX Currency/Cityscape Residences- Absolute fell to Choi Sportswear-Sunkist in double OT, 108-102.

A victory by AX would have given them a chance for third place, but the loss made its last game non bearing against No. 3 Summit Waters.

Choi took the upperhand in the third quarter, 66-50, but Cityscape rallied in the fourth quarter behind the exploit of Brothers Allen and Alvin Dionela, who combined for 17 points and and Zoey Pandan who scored 6 points to force the first overtime at 78- all.

Sunkist Ryan Disaon scored 8 points against Cityscape's Brian Coo's 10 to tie the score at 93-all and drag the game into another extra period.

AX could not sustain its offense in the second overtime as as Tommy Andren knocked down twp tripes with Siason, Rocky Gomez and Katsi Cadagat contributing in the offense.

Cadagat paced Choi with 20 points, Baldonado, Andren and Siason hit 14 points each, De La Peña shot 13 points, and Orense had 10 points.

Pandan paced AX/Citysscape with 21 points, Alvin Dionela picked up 19, Brian Coo shot 16, Allen Dionela with 15 points and Martin Jalandoni had 10 points.*
