Comelec reg'l head
appointment pushed
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The seven Commission on Elections commissioners will urge their Chairman Andres Bautista to designate an acting Comelec regional director for the Negros Island Region at their en banc meeting today, Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said yesterday.

The commission en banc created the Comelec Negros Island Region Office in April and authorized Bautista to designate an acting regional director, she said. However, on Tuesday Bautista told  the en banc that he will not designate a regional director because there is no more time since May 9 is days away, Guanzon said.

Guazon said the Comelec commissioners will urge Bautista today to designate an acting regional director.

“There are functions that only the regional election director can do such as lowering the threshold number of votes for proclamation of candidates. This is surely going to be an issue in the Negros Island Region where Gov. Alfredo Marañon and some other candidates are unopposed,” she pointed out.*CPG
