PNP chief Director General Ricardo Marquez yesterday expressed his confidence that the May 9 elections will be more peaceful, compared to the 2010 synchronized elections, stressing that they have prepared long and hard for it.
Marquez also lauded the Police Regional Office 18 of Negros island for having no election-related incidents up to this time, with the May 9 election fast approaching, although Negros Oriental has been included in the list of poll areas of concern.
Marquez said that after moving around the country and checking the security preparations of the regional police offices, he noted the reduction of shooting incidents by 1,400 on quarter to quarter basis.
The Police Regional Office-18 will send off 253 policemen from the Bacolod City Police and Regional Public Safety Battalion to areas in the Negros Island Region that need augmentation today.
The send-off will be held at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headquarters in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.
Senior Supt. Harris Fama, acting provincial director of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said that of 1,333 personnel, 833 are up for deployment during the elections in three districts of the province.

money – Degamo
Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo yesterday said he did not steal any money from the coffers of government, and that his political opponents are behind the charges filed against him.
This case came out in the 2013 elections and has re-emerged again, he added.
