Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella yesterday met with the delegates of Team Bacolod who will represent the city in the 5 th Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (PHILSPADA) National Para Games on March 28 to April 2 in Marikina City, a press release from the Mayor's Office said.
Competing for Team Bacolod are PWD-athletes PWD-athletes Vince Bico, Ismael Solivio, Enrico Tan, Aquileo Villacin, Joseph Tiapon, John Rey Belleza and Margaret Pasco.
Bico, Belleza and Pasco will represent Bacolod in athletics, Villacin and Tiapon in swimming, Solivio in chess and Tan in powerlifting.
The delegation is headed by team manager Alma Gustilo with assistant team manager Lowell Raner, coaches Arnold Ardosa and Eva Hermocillas. The athletes' guides are Siena Marie Paseo and Alan Aplasca.
“It's not about winning or losing; what's more important is you enjoy and do your best,” Puentevella told the athletes.
He said the athletes are already “winners and champions” since not all are given the opportunity to carry the name of the city in a national competition.
Funded by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the PHILSPADA is the national sports association tasked to develop sport competency for Filipinos with disabilities and is recognized by the International Paralympic Committee.
In the 2015 ASEAN Para Games, the PHILSPADA-NPC Philippines fielded 65 PWD-athletes and brought home 59 medals in athletics, chess, powerlifting, sailing, swimming, table tennis, tenpin bowling and wheelchair basketball.*
