Boxing promoters, managers, athletes, and referees from different parts of the world will convene in Bacolod City on March 30 to April 1 for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) Convention.
Organized by the Games and Amusement Board headed by chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon, the convention aims to gather industry players to discuss timely issues and update the Federation's boxing rules. Guanzon also sits as president of the OPBF.
Guanzon said World Boxing Coul president Mauricio Sulaiman from Mexico will among those who will attend the event.
“We acknowledge that some rules of the game may need adjustment, the sport being dynamic as it is,"Guanzon said.
He added that participants of the Convention will tackle issues and propose rules that are relevant to modern boxing.
“I am very positive that the OPBF Convention will result in even safer boxing matches and a more vibrant boxing industry in the region,” Guanzon said.
During the convention, ringside physicians Dr. Paul Wallace, Dr. Radentor Viernes and Dr. Jose Rolando Rivera and prominent international boxing officials Bruce McTavish and Hubert Minn will conduct seminars on protocol in drug testing of boxers, on officiating boxing bouts, and other medical and safety issues.
Also scheduled during the event is the OPBF Executive Meeting that will tackle the revision of some provisions of the Rules and Regulations of the Federation.
An OPBF Referees and Judges Conference will also be held during the convention wherein the participants will discuss the judging principles in boxing with scientific basis, refereeing principals with emphasis on safety, rules on ring officials, and application and implementation of interim championship.*NAB
