The Regional Development Council has endorsed an initial P12.6 billion in proposed budgets for 17 national government agencies and four state colleges and universities in the Negros Island Region, at a meeting in Dumaguete City yesterday.
The RDC, at the meeting at the Bethel Guest House chaired by Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., also endorsed the proposal for the allocation of P9 billion to connect NIR provincial roads.
Five solar farms in Negros Island are producing another 139 megawatts of power, while the groundbreaking for a 25MW biomass power plant is set April 6.
Two other solar plants in Silay and Cadiz cities in Negros Occidental with a total output of 157.5MW were also recently inaugurated and connected to the Visayas grid.

3 NIR agencies propose
P22.3-B budget for 2017

Three government agencies of the Negros Island Region proposed a budget of around P22.31 billion for 2017, during the NIR-Regional Development Council meeting at Bethel Guesthouse in Dumaguete City yesterday.
However, the RDC endorsed only an initial P21.6 billion of the proposed budgets of 17 government agencies in all, four state colleges and universities in the NIR, and roads.
The Department of Agriculture 18 proposed a budget of over P1.5 billion for next year, the Department of Public Works and Highways - P20 billion, and P815.4 million for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
