Montilla denies any wrongdoing

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has ordered the filing of graft and malversation charges against a Negros Occidental mayor and a Bacolod City government employee, who were former officials of the Local Water Utilities Administration.

They were ordered indicted along with senator-elect Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian and 23 others, for the alleged irregular acquisition of an insolvent bank by LWUA in 2009.

The “government effectively lost at least P80,003,070.51 in this questionable acquisition alone”, Morales said. moremoremore

NIR gets bulk of
block farm funds

About half of the P400 million in the 2015 and 2016 General Appropriations Act for Sugarcane Block Farm Projects will go to Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries' Organizations in the Negros Island Region, Undersecretary Felix Perry Villanueva, of the Department Agrarian Reform's Finance, Planning and Administration Office, said yesterday.

Negros Island ARBOs will also receive half of the proposed P100 million 2017 budget on top of the allotted funds for the block farm joint project of the Sugar Regulatory Administration and DAR, Villanueva said.

DAR will provide the logistical support and SRA will supply technical support to the beneficiaries of the government subsidy, Villanueva also said, but added, “We are asking equity participation, or support in kind, from the ARBOs.”

Comelec reminds winning,
losing poll bets to file SOCE

The Commission on Elections cautioned candidates in the May 9 elections against ignoring provisions of the Omnibus Election Code, especially on the filing of the Statement of Contributions and Expenditures, or SOCE, by June 8.

Bais City election officer Gilgu Agoncillo said EOs in the province would have returned to their original assignments by now, but their stay was extended up to June 15, to complete their accountabilities, on the receipt of the SOCEs.

He said winners and losers can be banned from running for public office if they failed to file their SOCEs, as provided for under the law, twice.moremoremore
