Provincial Elections Officer Jessie Suarez yesterday said that, based on the turnout of voter registrants for the Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay elections, he expects Negros Occidental to hit the expected 3 to 5 percent increase in number of voters.
In the May polls, Negros Occidental had 1,663,492 voters.
The registration of voters for the SK and barangay polls as of Thursday drew 65,916 more voter registrants provincewide, Comelec data showed.
Today is the last day of the registration of new voters and the Comelec is bracing for a large turnout of registrants trying to beat the deadline.
He said the 3 to 5 percent increase he had projected was based on the existing population of the province.
Comelec Chairman Juan Andres Bautista yesterday said the planned Constitutional Convention is no longer happening, so the October elections will push through as scheduled.
