I'm innocent,
Himamaylan mayor says

Himamaylan Mayor Agustin Ernesto Bascon yesterday said he is innocent of the case filed against him before the Sandiganbayan for alleged illegal cockfighting operations and will prove this in court.

The Ombudsman Wednesday charged Bascon for violation of Section 5 (D) of Presidential Decree 449 or the Cockfighting Law of 1974 before the Sandiganbayan in Quezon City.

The information filed against him said that Bascon “willfully, unlawfully, and criminally” allowed the holding of cockfight in Himamaylan City every Sunday from Nov. 11, 2012 to Jan. 4, 2013 without the approval of the chief of the Philippine National Police as required under Section 5 (D) of PD 449.

It also said Bascon granted the permit to hold cockfighting events to a certain Pablito Villaruel, who did not have a license to operate a cockpit.

The ombudsman recommended a P10,000 bail bond for Bascon's provisional liberty.

Bascon said he has yet to post bail, but he is very optimistic that with God's help he will win his case.*CPG
