A kagawad of Barangay Minoyan in Murcia, Negros Occidental, was robbed and shot dead by riding-in-tandem suspects at the national road in Barangay Lopez Jaena in the town, Tuesday night.
Stephen Guiro, 35, was hit in the head and died on the spot, Senior Insp. Lawrence Gerald Bathan, Murcia Police Station chief, said yesterday.
Investigation showed that Guiro was about to leave his store in Barangay Lopez Jaena on board his motorcycle when the suspects riding in a blue Rusi motorcycle approached and the back-rider shot him at close range, Bathan said.
Guiro fell to the pavement and the suspects took his sling bag containing about P10,000 in cash and several personal belongings such as his wallet and identification cards, Bathan said.
The suspects, who were wearing jackets and hats, escaped on their motorcycle, police records show.
Bathan said robbery hold-up is one of the angles they are looking into but they are also considering other angles such as personal conflicts or things related to his work as barangay kagawad.
He said they still cannot get statements from the witnesses who were still in a state of shock because of what happened.
The police recovered from the crime scene a deformed slug and two fired cartridge cases of a .45 caliber pistol, records show.
Bathan said they have already requested for ballistic examination on the recovered slug and cartridge cases.
He said they will also compare the slugs and cartridges with those recovered in San Carlos City, where a similar robbery hold-up and shooting incident, with the suspects also shooting their victim in the head, took place previously.
“We will see if the suspects in San Carlos are the same persons who killed Guiro,” Bathan said.*SGG
