Sidewalk vendors regulated

Sidewalk vendors at downtown Bacolod have been ordered to observe a “1 meter by 1 meter” space each, Market Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force head Ernesto Pineda  said  yesterday.

The City Legal Office (CLO) Field Enforcement Team, headed by Dante Mendecillo, went around Central Market this morning to enforce the “1 meter by 1 meter” regulation per sidewalk vendor, a City Hall press release said.

The group also cut the excess structures per vendor, removed old tarpaulins and extra steel bars, and demolished illegal structures.

The group implemented the regulation at Bonifacio- Luzuriaga streets,  Luzuriaga-Smith, and Luzuriaga going to Gatuslao Street. They aim to saturate the whole downtown area within this week, Pineda added.

The regulation was arrived at after a series of consultations and meetings of the CLO and MCMTF with the officers of vendors associations such as LUGGAR (Luzuriaga Gatuslao Gonzaga Araneta) Vendors Association and BACODVA (Bacolod City Downtown Vendors Association), Pineda said.

The CLO and MCMTF are reminding the sidewalk vendors to maintain cleanliness within their area and dispose of their garbage during collection time.*
