The first Metro Gaisano mall in Negros Oriental will soon open in Bais City, following the signing of a lease agreement with the local government unit.
This is historic since this is the first Gaisano in Negros Oriental, Lloyd Elmaco, Bais City legal officer said, adding the lease is by virtue of Ordinance No. 35, or the Public Private Partnership Code of Bais City.
This opened the doors of Bais City to potential investors like the Montesol Solar plants of the Ayala Group of companies, then now Metro Gaisano, he said.
Metro Gaisano will lease the Mercado de Bais and the city will develop the satellite market for our market vendors, who are presently occupying the Mercado, he added.
Elmaco said Gaisano made an advance rental of P40 million so the city can use it to develop and improve the satellite market and the rental for their stalls would also be cheaper compared to the stalls now in Mercado.
At the signing Thursday were Arthur Emmanuel, president and chief operating officer of Metro Retail Stores Inc., legal counsel Gerralyn Sayson, Bais Mayor Mercedes Goñi and City Legal Officer Lloyd Elmaco.
Emmanuel assured during the signing that 95 percent of the work force of Gaisano will be Baisanons.
Gaisano will start their renovation and construction the moment the satellite market would be ready to accommodate the vendors of Mercado de Bais, Elmaco said.*JFP
