Antiqueño rising ski racer

Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao has asked rising ski racer Marco Umgeher, e son of an Antiqueña with an Austrian, to bring the Antique pride with him in his competitions.

Cadiao, who gave honors and support to Umgeher, said Wednesday that in every occasion possible, he should be proud to introduce himself as coming from Antique, Philippines.

Umgeher, the son of Gemma Imbang and her husband Hannes Umgeher, was born on December 16, 2001 in Austria. He came to visit the governor and also to ask support from the provincial government and for those who would be willing to sponsor his sports trainings which he described to be very expensive, and much dependent only on the income of his parents due to his decision to bring the Filipino flag in his competitions, despite his Austrian citizenship.

Umgeher has been winning in ski racing competitions since 2009. Just this 2016, he won first place in the Lower Austrian Championship Combination and also first place in the Lower Austrian Championship, Hochkar, Slalom. He also participated in other championship competitions this year where he ranked high.

In an interview with PNA, Umgeher, encouraged other Antiqueño youth, or those like him who have Antiqueño blood to give their best despite the many challenges particularly in sports. He said that he wants to be a role model for the younger talents.

All his trainings, Umgeher said, are geared toward his vision of “being the first one who will attend international skiing competitions and also the Olympic Games under the Filipino flag”.*PNA
