Filipino fighter fails bid
to bring home OPBF title

OSAKA, Japan -- Filipino challenger Rex Wa-o suffered a first round knockout defeat to Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight titlist Takahiro Yamamoto of Japan in Osaka Wednesday.

Living up to his monicker “Igorot Warrior”, Wa-o initiated the attacks but Yamamoto's defense proved too hard to break.

Wa-o, who had to lose excess seven pounds weight, continued to put pressure and he dearly paid for it.

The reigning champion caught Wa-o with a right to the body that put the Filipino down grimacing in pain and was not able to respond to mandatory eight-count.

"It was really very painful in my stomach and I could not take it anymore," Wa-o said.

Wa-o absorbed his third defeat in 14 fights while Yamamoto improved ring record to 18-4 with 15 knockouts.*PNA
