Banzuela moves to NegOr
to join FU sports program

After spending years as volleyball coach for the University of St. La Salle, following his retirement as the school's Varsity Sports Office director, Roger Banzuela has joined the Foundation University in Negros Oriental under its Institute of Youth Sports for Peace program.

Banzuela said it is a new challenge for him and he looks forward to forging new alliances in Negros Oriental.

Despite moving to the other side of Negros island, he said he remains as the president of the Negros Occidental Vollyeball Association.

“The tournaments under NOVA will still be there. It will just be a matter of drafting a timetable for every competition,” Banzuela said.

As president of the Philippine National University Games, he said they are planning to hold the tournament this year in Negros Oriental with FU as a possible host.

“Nothing has been finalized yet but we are hoping for another successful staging of the UniGames this year,” he said.

With his transfer to FU, Banzuela was the sports committee interim director of the Negros Occidental Private School Sports Educational Association (NOPSSCEA).

Last year, Banzuela helped the NOPSSCEA sports committee in planning the schedule of the competition.

“I had a great with NOPSSCEA and I hope we can replicate its success in Negros Oriental where the private schools have yet to strengthen its existing association,” Banzuela said.

Before leaving the USLS, the highly-regarded volleyball coach steered the school's college spikers to various championships both in the local and national scene.*NAB
