Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said he has directed executive assistant Nelson Sedillo to coordinate with Dynamic Builders because he has noticed that its garbage collection system has not been well established, especially in the downtown area of Bacolod City.
Leonardia said he also noted that it collects garbage at about 10 p.m. while the stores close between 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. so the uncollected garbage have become ugly sights.
One option is for them to collect earlier so there will be no garbage left in the downtown area. He will also request for additional street cleaners because of the huge volume of garbage they collect, he said.
Leonardia said he also saw a mini dumpsite between Locsin and Luzuriaga streets, so he ordered the demolition of the shanties of people making livelihood out of garbage, he said.
Garbage collection will be a priority of his administration, he added.
Meanwhile, Leonardia said there are only 170 traffic enforcers manning the traffic and this include regular traffic enforcers.
Executive assistant retired Police Supt. Armando Tobongbanua has said that the ideal number of traffic enforcers is about 400, he said. If the funds come, they will hire additional traffic enforcers, he said.
Leonardia said he is asking the indulgence of the public because they can not yet hire more traffic enforcers since the previous administration made massive withdrawals before it left City Hall living its finances anemic.*CGS
