NBI Negros gets new chief;
will hit hard on drugs: Lavin
BY CARLA GOMEZ

The National Bureau of Investigation will hit hard on illegal drugs, corruption and other high crimes in line with the policy of President Rodrigo Duterte, Ferdinand Lavin, the new NBI national spokesman, said yesterday.

Lavin, who was NBI Negros Island Region head, has been named NBI spokesman and chief of its International Operations Division.

He will be replaced by lawyer Mario Tonelete as NBI NIR regional director, who was due to arrive in Bacolod yesterday.

Lavin said he assumed his post as head of the International Operations Division last week, and will handle extradition concerns, mutual legal assistance, foreign embassies, and attending Interpol meetings.

He returned to Negros yesterday for the turnover to Tonelete, who was Cebu NBI assistant regional director, Lavin said.

Tonelete will take up the campaign against drugs with NBI Bacolod agent-in-charge Renato Garbo, Lavin said.

The NBI nationwide reshuffling is ongoing, he added.*CPG
