The Philippine National Police in Negros Oriental continues to look for clues on the shooting-to-death of a kagawad in the municipality of Valencia over the weekend.
Chief Insp. Alfonso Enriquez, Valencia police chief, said it was not yet clear what was behind the death of Rene Delfino, of legal age, married and a resident of Barangay Mampas, Valencia.
Delfino was the number one kagawad of Barangay Mampas at the time of his death, Enriquez said via the Amigo Cops Negros Oriental PNP Text Blast project.
Initial police investigation showed that at around 2:40 p.m. Saturday, Delfino was on board his motorcycle following a convoy in Barangay South Poblacion, Valencia, en route to the cemetery for the burial of his relative.
A lone male suspect, wearing a bull cap and a mask that covered his face and also riding a motorcycle, tailed Delfino and shot him three times on his head and back, the police report said.
The suspect managed to flee heading eastward.
Police recovered three empty shells of .45 caliber revolver from the crime scene, the report added.*JFP
