Drugs seized in three
cities, eight nabbed

The police seized prohibited drugs in three separate operations in Himamaylan, Kabankalan and San Carlos cities in Negros Occidental from Friday to yesterday, that also led to the arrest of eight suspects, including two minors.

In Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, joint operations of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force and Public Safety Company of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headed by Supt. Mario Baquiran and Chief Inspector Mark Anthony Darroca, last night seized about 10 kilos of suspected dried marijuana leaves from two suspects.

The two arrested suspects were identified as Bonn Antiquera, 28, and Odessa Stefan,22, both of Mina town in Iloilo.

In Himamaylan City, Police Supt. Antonietto Cañete said the arrest of Melcon Granada during a buy-bust operation on Saturday at Purok Tumpok in Brgy. Talaban, yielded about 25 grams of suspected shabu, estimated to have a market value of P250,000 and its paraphernalia.

Cañete, who is the Himamaylan City police chief, said they also recovered a homemade .38 caliber revolver with five ammunition and a live cartridge for .45 caliber pistol.

Meanwhile, policemen, who responded to a reported attempted homicide incident at a pension house on in Brgy. 1 Poblacion, Kabankalan City, Friday arrested five suspects, including two minors, for violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002.

Supt. Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City police officer-in-charge, said the arrest of Clever Peñaranda, 35, yielded two sachets of suspected shabu, five opened plastic sachets containing suspected shabu residue and its paraphernalia, and P500 in marked money.

The two minors, who were found inside the room of Peñaranda, were turned over to the City Social Worker and Development Office, while the two other arrested suspects identified as Erla Mae Makiling and Joan Ortañez, are now in jail.

The Kabankalan police recovered 6.5 grams of shabu, as confirmed by the PNP Crime Laboratory, with a market value of P39, 222, assorted drug paraphernalia and P500 in cash.*GPB
