A special milestone
A Child's Place preschool in Bacolod City recently celebrated its 25 anniversary. Two decades ago, it pioneered the progressive approach to education when there was no distinction between the teaching methods of preschools and elementary schools in the city.
Armed with her Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, Trish Jacinto-Golez gave Bacolod preschool students their first taste of "learning through play" in 1991. It was the first time parents heard about developmentally appropriate practices in teaching. Since it was, at that time, a radically new idea, only teacher Trish's friends and relatives dared enroll their children in ACP.
The early graduates of ACP now shine in their chosen careers here and abroad. The holistic foundation provided by ACP has produced successful entrepreneurs, varied professionals, athletes and artists. ACP alumni continue to dominate the honor rolls of prestigious schools here, in Cebu, Manila, Singapore and North America.
In the last two years, ACP has tweaked its teaching approach and its curriculum to prepare its students for the demands of the K to 12 program of the big schools. Socialization and play, however, still remain an ACP "signature."
The school will celebrate its 25th Milestone with alumni and alumni parents at SMX Bacolod on December 28, 2016.*
