Siquijor members hit by El Niño

The Government Service Insurance System Dumaguete Branch is accepting emergency loans from active members and old-age pensioners hit by a prolonged dry spell in the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

GSIS has set June 28 to July 27 as the schedule for application in Negros Oriental, and from July 5 to August 3 for Siquijor applicants.

GSIS branch manager Mercedes Enriquez said the emergency loan application can also be availed through the GSIS kiosks and over the counter.

Enriquez said the loan facility Enhanced Emergency Loan is available to qualified members working or residing in Dumaguete City and Siquijor province subject to the terms and conditions embodied in the Enhanced GSIS Emergency Loan Program approved under Board Resolution No. 129 dated August 28, 2014, a government press release said.

Pensioners Emergency Loan is also available to old age pensioners residing in the covered areas.

Enriquez also reminded that ‘future' old-age pensioners with records already created in the database but not yet receiving pensions are not entitled to avail.

However, EML application of old age pensioners shall be done over-the-counter under the existing policies and guidelines especially on the validation of identity of the borrower shall be strictly imposed.

For dual status, old-age pensioner and the same time active member, a member pensioner shall be tagged as qualified only once to prevent the double granting of EML, Enriquez said.
