3 lawmakers back call
for PhilHealth rehab aid

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) yesterday said they support the call of Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon for PhilHealth to help cover the cost of the rehabilitation of drug dependents.

Senator Vicente "Tito" Sotto III has also filed Senate Bill No. 8 also pushing for PhilHealth assistance in drug rehabilitation.

Zubiri said "I fully support Gov. Marañon in his drive to include drug rehab as part of the coverage of PhilHealth as drug addiction can be considered a serious illness, and should be medically and psychologically treated." moremoremore

Drugs seized in three
cities, eight nabbed

The police seized prohibited drugs in three separate operations in Himamaylan, Kabankalan and San Carlos cities in Negros Occidental from Friday to yesterday, that also led to the arrest of eight suspects, including two minors.

In Brgy. Rizal, San Carlos City, joint operations of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force and Public Safety Company of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headed by Supt. Mario Baquiran and Chief Inspector Mark Anthony Darroca, last night seized about 10 kilos of suspected dried marijuana leaves from two suspects.

The two arrested suspects were identified as Bonn Antiquera, 28, and Odessa Stefan,22, both of Mina town in Iloilo. moremoremore

GSIS offers loan to Negros Or.,
Siquijor members hit by El Niño

The Government Service Insurance System Dumaguete Branch is accepting emergency loans from active members and old-age pensioners hit by a prolonged dry spell in the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

GSIS has set June 28 to July 27 as the schedule for application in Negros Oriental, and from July 5 to August 3 for Siquijor applicants.

GSIS branch manager Mercedes Enriquez said the emergency loan application can also be availed through the GSIS kiosks and over the counter. .
