Three rob-gang men
face criminal charges

Three members of the Seva Celeste robbery group, who were arrested after a brief shootout with policemen in La Carlota City, may stay longer in jail, as they are now facing a string of criminal complaints.

Supt. Orly Gabinete, La Carlota City police chief, said yesterday that they have already filed robbery-in-band charges against Joeven Seva, 19; Danilo Celeste, 24; both residents of Victorias City, and Alejandro Montoya Jr., 20, of Talisay City, all in Negros Occidental.

Additional charges for violation of RA 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002, were also filed against Seva.

Gabinete said that four victims of the arrested suspects, who visited them at the La Carlota City police jail, positively identified them.

The capture of the three suspects yielded two .22 and .38 caliber revolvers, six ammunition and two empty shells, two elongated sachets of suspected shabu, three cellular phones, P590 in cash, and assorted items.

Police investigations showed that the suspects, including their leader still at large – Marvin Celeste - had victimized recently four families in Brgys, Bacong, Ma-ao and Don Jorge Araneta in Bago City, whom they robbed at gunpoint, before shifting their operations to La Carlota.

But the group managed to stage two hold-up incidents in La Carlota City, before their luck ran out, with the arrest of three of their members after a shoot-out with the police.

Gabinete said additional charges for frustrated murder, in connection with the injuries of SPO3 Jerry Rumbines, who was among the arresting police officers, and more for robbery-in band.

The robbery group, almost all of its members had died in an encounter with policemen in EB Magalona in previous years, was resurrected, this time, by the younger generation of the Seva and Celeste families, who shifted their operations to the 4th district of Negros Occidental, police investigations further showed.*GPB
