Dengue up 165%

Dengue cases in Negros Occidental from January 1 to July 2 hit 1,206 or 165 percent higher than last year's 751 cases, a Provincial Health Office report said yesterday.

The number of deaths remained at four for this year.

The PHO also identified 16 barangays that had three or more dengue cases in 4 consecutive weeks.

They are barangays Mailum, Poblacion and Calumangan in Bago City, Bulata, Lina-on and Calamanda-an in Cauayan, Camangcamang in Isabela, Tagukon - Kabankalan, Consuleo in La Carlota, Bagtic, Balaring, Mambulac and Lantad - Silay City, Manlucahoc and Gil Montilla in Sipalay City and Tabao Proper in Valladolid.

Silay City remained the topnotcher with 160 dengue cases, followed by Bago City at 106, San Carlos City – 101, Himamaylan City – 99 and Kabankalan City – 78.

Other dengue cases were in Cauayan – 69, La Carlota City – 55, Victorias City – 53, Talisay City – 46, Sagay City - 45, Binalbagan - 34, Hinigaran – 33, Isabela – 33, Pontevedra – 29, Sipalay City – 27, Calatrava - 26, Ilog – 25, San Enrique – 25, Cadiz City – 19, Valladolid -19, EB Magalona – 18, Escalante City – 17, Manapla -17, Murcia – 16, Hinoba-an – 13, Moises Padilla -12, Candoni -9 , La Castellana – 8, Salvador Benedicto – 8, Pulupandan - 3 and Toboso – 3.*CPG
