The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is now finalizing the list of police officers allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade, and those using drugs, for submission to the PNP higher headquarters.
Senior Supt. William Señoron, Negros Occidental provincial police director, refused to give details on the exact number of police officers linked to drugs, but confirmed that allegations about some of them have already been validated.
Three police officers assigned in Negros Island have tested positive for use of prohibited drugs. Early this week, personnel of the Regional Intelligence Unit 18 were also subjected to drug testing.
It is very crucial to clean their ranks through drug testing, because their presence will erode the credibility of the PNP, the police said.
As to incidents of extra-judicial killings, Capa said he will not tolerate them. “That will worsen the situation”, he said on the killing of a suspected drug personality in Talisay City.
Similar incidents also took place in Calatrava and in Negros Oriental, with victims linked to the proliferation of prohibited drugs.
“Everything we do should be above board”, Capa said.*GPB .
