Process biz registration
in 24 hours, LGUs told

MANILA -- Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez challenged local government units to process business registration in 24 hours, in compliance with the direction of the Duterte administration to make transactions with government offices easier for Filipinos.

Lopez stated his challenge to LGUs during the 4th Regional Competitiveness Summit held at the Philippine International Convention Center yesterday, where leaders of cities and municipalities across the country attended the event.

At the sidelines of the summit, he told reporters that he targets for one-day transaction for those with five- to 10-day processing period.

He added that even his own department is planning how to implement one-day processing and approval of business registration.

Lopez said the DTI intends to approve first the applications for business registration before checking for their complete compliance.

“Our proposal is give them curing period for compliance for them to be able to comply. If they don't comply, revoke (the registration),” he said.

Lopez said this fast-tracking of processing time does not mean lowering the standards or compliance for concerns such as safety and sanitation among many others.*PNA
