Thieves steal cash, jewelry

At least P320,000 in cash, jewelry, and other belongings were stolen by four “akyat-bahay” suspects from a house at the Villa Angela Subdivision, in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, Sunday.

The suspects gained entry by destroying the lock of a grill door and detaching the window grill of a room occupied by the Mueller family, a police report said.

A vault containing P320,000 in cash, gold rings, and document was stolen by the suspects, the police said.

The suspects also carted away two plastic chairs, a cable box, a router, and other personal belongings, police records show.

In a follow-up operation, Police Station 4, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team recovered the vault beside a river in Purok Malinong, Barangay Taculing in Bacolod, but the items inside it were gone, Police Officer 3 Armando Lagunday, said.

Lagunday said one of the suspects, whose name he withheld, and who resides near the river, was identified by witnesses.

The suspects threw the empty vault beside the river, Lagunday said.

He said the suspects may face charges for robbery.*SGG
