Flooding hits six San Enrique brgys

Heavy rains that hit Negros Occidental Thursday and yesterday caused flooding in six barangays in San Enrique town, Negros Occidental, Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, Provincial Disaster Management Program Division chief, said yesterday.

Flooded were barangays Batuan, Guintorilan, Sibucao, Baliwagan, Bagonawa and Tabao Rizal, he said.

No evacuation took place and the water eventually subsided, he said.

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said the provincial government-owned dredger has been in San Enrique for sometime, clearing waterways.

He reiterated his call to officials of towns and cities to clean up their drainage systems and dredge their silted rivers to prevent flooding with the start of the La Niña.

Rains yesterday were also induced by Typhoon “Butchoy” that left the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday afternoon.*CPG
