Comelec registration
slated July 15 – 30
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Commission on Elections in Dumaguete City is calling on new voters and those who have failed to vote twice in two previous succeeding elections to register for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election.

Dumaguete election officer, Gildu Agoncillo, said he received an advance copy of a Comelec resolution on the registration period from July 15-31 this year.

He said the registration will cover new voters, correction of entry, change status and deactivation of registration records.

However, transfer of registration “within and outside” is not allowed, meaning registered voters who would opt to transfer their current registration from one barangay to another, or from one municipality or city to another, Agoncillo said.

Biometrics will also be made available for the voters who have not had theirs previously, he added.

Agoncillo also cautioned the public not to rely on the possible extension of the registration period and instead avail of the two weeks allocated in the middle half of July.

The Comelec official also there is no word yet on whether a satellite office will be allowed at the Robinsons Place shopping mall in Dumaguete, although he said personally he would support the idea even if only for three days to attract more registrants.

Meanwhile, there is no calendar of activities yet for the barangay and SK elections on October 31, Agoncillo said.*JFP
