P9.46 million in shabu seized

The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office reported the seizure of 946.89 grams of shabu, with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of P9.46 million, since January 12 when Senior Supt. Harris Fama assumed as its director.

The accomplishment also included 192 police operations, arrest of 222 suspected pushers and users, filing of 336 cases in courts, and the confiscation of marijuana weighing about 5.49 grams, a police report furnished the Daily STAR showed.

It added that from 12:01 a.m. Friday to midnight Saturday, two persons in Guihulngan City and three in Bayawan were nabbed by the respective police stations for drug offenses. One suspect was neutralized by the Dumaguete City Police Station, and 122 suspected users and pushers voluntary surrendered, the police report said.

geothermal expansion on

Environmental groups in Negros Oriental handed over a copy of more than 3,000 petition signatures to Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves to stop the Energy Development Corporation's 60-megawatt geothermal expansion project at Cuernos de Negros, or Mt. Talinis.

The 350 Pilipinas coordinator Zephanie Repollo said the mayor showed support to the groups and committed to ensure transparency of the project, a government press release said.

The Office of the Mayor will likewise arrange a dialog among the complainants, officials from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the EDC.  .

Committee for
children created

The Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children Negros Island Region was recently organized in Dumaguete City to promote coordination and harmonize efforts for the protection and well-being of children in the region.

Under its resolution, RCSCWC as a governance structure provides direct assistance to local government units and accountable to both the Regional Development Council and the Council for the Welfare of Children, a government press release said.

In her orientation meeting with members of the RSCWC, division head Flordeliza Gultiano of CWC presented the roles and functions of the committee on the survival, development, protection and participation of children and youth.
