The Public Employment Services Office-Negros Occidental spent P513,600 for 112 students under the Special Program for Employment of Students in 2015.
A provincial PESO report said the total amount that aided the students in their enrollment fees and school expenses came from combined counterparts from LGUs, the Technology and Livelihood Development Cooperative, local PESO, and the 303 rd Brigade Wellness Farm.
Four batches of SPES scholars worked during summer, and the semester and Christmas breaks last year, Ricardo Calsena, PESO manager, said in the report.
Meanwhile, PESO Neg. Occ. was awarded as the Top Performing PESO in the region on Dec. 23, 2015 for achieving the highest number of job fairs conducted last year.
The office reported a total of 5,744 registrants in about 25 job fairs, from January to November 2015, 277 of which were hired on the spot.
PESO conducted the fairs around the province, with partners in the business process operations industry, local firms and Philippine Overseas Employment Agency licensed companies, with the support of LGUs, the report said.
PESO Neg. Occ. organized job fairs in the towns of Cauayan, Hinobaan, Manapla,San Enrique and Bacolod City.
The agency trainings included Migration, and Development Modules conducted by the United Nations Development Program, Commission on Filipinos Overseas and the National Economic Development Authority.
PESO Neg. Occ. also attended the Regional Career Advocacy and Employment Congress, and the Workforce Development Forum that highlighted preparation of the work force development plan of PESO in the country, the report also said.*KBC
