Fire hits 50 houses

Residents jumped into the sea and swam to the shore to save their lives from the big fire that hit houses occupied by about 200 families at the coastal area of Purok Kagaycay, Barangay 2 in Bacolod City, at about 10:51 p.m. Monday.

The fire survivors, who included sharers and renters, lost their homes to the fire that destroyed 46 houses and damaged four more.

Erodita Lesana, one of the survivors, recalled that she placed the one-year-old baby of her neighbor in a washbasin and asked several men who were already in the water to bring the child to the shore.moremoremore

Senior Supt. Melchor Coronel, former acting police director of the Bacolod City Police Office, will head the Regional Election Monitoring Action Committee in Negros Island, Chief Supt. Conrado Capa, Police Regional Office-18 OIC director, said yesterday.

Coronel, as head of the REMAC will monitor election-related matters, especially on election day, Capa said.

New OIC police directors Senior Supt. William Señoron for Negros Occidental, Senior Supt. Harris Fama for Negros Oriental, and Senior Supt. Flynn Dongbo for Bacolod City will be formally installed by Capa at rites set at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City today.moremoremore

as NegOr police director

More provinces in the Negros Island Region and Western Visayas got new provincial police directors, effective Jan. 9, a day before the election period started.

Senior Supt. Harris Fama was designated the new officer-in-charge of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NORPPO).

He will join Senior Supt. William Señoron and Senior Supt. Flynn Dongbo, officers-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) and the Bacolod City Police Office, respectively, for their formal installation by Chief Supt. Conrado Capa, regional police director of the Negros Island Region, in a ceremony today at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.moremoremore
