Parklane guns for
3-peat in Cebu triathlon

Defending champion Parklane will field their A-team as they gun for a three-peat in the Paramount Property Ventures 201 Tri-Team Championship series on February 6 in Dalaguete town in southern Cebu.

Parklane, the two-time defending champion but is currently at third place with 258 points in the standings, trails leader Tri-Liloan and WS Tri Team.

Tri-Lioan sits comfortably at No. 1 with 297 points thanks to great showings in the first two legs in Bantayan last March and in Dumanjug last September.

WS Tri Team is second with 267 points.

"It's still anybody's race because a team can earn as much as 100 points in the final leg," said organizer Anton Regis.

The format has the top six members of each team earning points to count for the tally, and if the top six members finish within the top three of their divisions, Parklane can overhaul the deficit.

The event, hosted by Dalaguete for the third straight year, will have the standard, sprint, kiddie tri and relay division.

The standard division, which has the 1.5 kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run, offers P10,000, P7,000 and P5,000 to the top three winners. The relay winners will also get the same amount.

Dalaguete sports commission head Randy Cisnero said the town hopes to continue hosting the event as it is a huge boost to their tourism industry.

"We've been hosting this for the past three years and it has impacted our tourism industry. All of our resorts are fully-booked during race week," he said.

Meanwhile, another lung-busting event, the All-Women Ultra Marathon, saw all 250 slots for its 2016 edition sold out in just 28 minutes.

"We were shocked that it sold out quickly. This is a testament that more women are into ultra-marathons," said organizer Tony Galon of the Cebu Ultrarunners Club.

"We never thought there are so many women runners who are waiting for this annual event," Galon said.

The fifth edition of the Awum, which once had Sen. Pia Cayetano as a guest, will be on March 12 and will start at the Senior Citizen's Park in Cebu City before ending at the South Road Properties.

It will cover 50 kilometers and will have a cut-off time of 10 hours.*PNA
