The conduct of a police checkpoint Wednesday in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, yielded P70,000 worth of suspected shabu and the arrest of two suspects.
A police team led by Chief Inspector Romeo Vargas intercepted Jason Mark Albia and Danilo Bobon, who were on board a Honda City vehicle, at the highway of Yonque Street in Brgy. 2 pobacion, La Carlota City, for traffic violations.
Vargas, who is the La Carlota City deputy police chief, said the visual search of the vehicle led to the recovery of seven plastic sachets of suspected shabu, estimated to have street market value of P70,000, and its assorted paraphernalia.
He said the suspects, who came from Bacolod City, were about to deliver the goods in La Carlota City, when they were intercepted at the police checkpoint.
Also recovered by the La Carlota police were P190 in cash and three cellular phones, while the Honda City vehicle driven by Albia is now under police custody.
On the same day, Police Inspector Junji Liba also reported the arrest of Herald Alojamiento, a 26-year-old student, while responding to a case of alarm and scandal in Brgy. Haguimit, La Carlota City.
Liba said the arrest of Alojamiento also yielded a sachet of suspected shabu, an improvised tooter with suspected shabu residue and a disposable lighter.
Eight other suspects were also arrested by the police during a buy-bust operation in Cadiz City, in an operation spearheaded by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
The buy-bust operation yielded 50 grams of suspected shabu, estimated to have a market value of P200,000.*GPB
