Two cops in Bacolod
positive for drug use

Two out of 20 policemen yielded positive results for drug use in a random drug test conducted recently at the Bacolod City Police Office in Bacolod City, Senior Supt. Flynn Dongbo, BCPO officer-in-charge, said yesterday.

Dongbo said the police officers, whose names he withheld, have already been charged administratively for grave misconduct, which is tantamount for dismissal from the service.

The pre-charge investigation has been finished and the case already forwarded to the Police Regional Office -18, Dongbo said.

One of the involved policemen is assigned at the Police Station 4 while the other is a member of the Mobile Patrol Group. Both of them have previous administrative cases, Dongbo said.

The policemen are still rendering duty while the decision on their case is being awaited, Dongbo said, adding that they will be given due process to explain their sides.

The random drug tests last month was led by personnel of the Provincial Crime Laboratory, with the supervision of Dongbo as part of the internal cleansing among members of the Philippine National Police.

Dongbo said they will conduct continuous random drug testing to remove policemen who are using drugs in Bacolod.

But as to the number of drug tests to be conducted, Dongbo said it will depend on the availability of kits and personnel to administer it.

He said policemen engaging in illegal activities such as the use of drugs should stop it immediately, and not wait until they are arrested and face penalties.*SGG
