Sweet Crystals Sugar defeated AACI Trading, 73-58, to collect the last ticket to the quarterfinals in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-Company Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
A loss by Sweet could have eliminated them from contention as they finished at No. 6 for 3-6, while AACI Trading dropped to 2-6 tied with Basecom. AACI Trading secured the 8th spot by virtue of the winner over the other rule.
Yan Yan Dy and Chipeng Uy scored 6 points each in the second quarter to give Sweet Crystals Sugar a 39-26 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, AACI Trading responded with 15 points from Joel Masadia and Joshua Chua to cut the deficit to 51-43 going to the fourth quarter.
Dy scored 8 points while teammates Jose Miguel Montinola and Deles scored had 6 points apiece to seal the victory for Sweet Crystals.
Montinola topscored for the winning team with 17 points while Dy finished with 14, and Deles tallied 10 points.
Jeremy Coo paced AACI Trading with 16 points as Masadia added 10 markers.
In the other game, Royal Star Trading won the battle for third place by holding off JSY Countertrade, 68-64.
Sean Wee finished with a game-high 29 points for Royal Star with 14 points delivered in the fourth quarter.
JSY Countertrade was led by Pandoro with 17 points backstopped by Arvin Gustilo with 13 and Ritchie Militante had 10 points.*
