The La Salle - Ceres XI, representing NOPSSCEA, demolished the defense of Capiz for a 12-0 domination in their opening match at the Regional PRISAA Meet at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City yesterday morning.
The FreddieLazarito -mentored team, which is beefed up by UNO-Recoletos players, will face Iloilo tomorrow in what could be a title-retention match following Iloilo's encounter with Capiz today as only three teams are participating in the soccer competition.
Lazarito said the Ceres-La Salle team is gunning for its fifth consecutive regional title since businessman Leo Rey Yanson started supporting the squad, adding that the Bacolod players under the NOPSSCEA banner took the grand slam national PRISAA title last year after claiming it also in 2013 and 2014,
Assistant coach and trainor Carlo Andrew Demegillo said the NOPSSCEA scoring machine was led by Lasallians Jo Warren Bedia, who booted in four markers; Nessi Ramos with three goals and Joshua Dotusme with two.
Registering a goal each were Hanessin Prince Antony, Under-22 national championship MVP Charles Ivan Barberan and UNO-Rian Luther Silava.
Demegillo said the team's break today will provide the players a good rest and preparation for tomorrow's titular match.
With the coaching staff in Capiz is Dr. Emily Zerrudo, who also the headed the local organizing commitee's Medical Team inmthe just-concluded AFC Cup Qualifying between home team Ceres-La Salle FC and the Malaysian Selangor FA.
NOPSSCEA spikers, meanwhile, won all their four matches on Day 1 of the volleyball competition matches at the Regional PRISAA Meet in Roxas City.
The USLS Stingers trounced Aklan in men's play, 25-17, 25-10, 25-15, and just as dominating were the Recoletos women, who trashed their hosts, 25-10, 25-10 and 25-11.
Their high school counterparts fashioned a similar feat over Capiz, 25-11, 25-22 on the boys' side and 25-9, 25-17 in the girls' division.
The UNO-R powered men's basketball team are also on a roll following a 100-57 rout of Ioilo.*AVDC
