Two policemen were killed and five others were injured in an ambush in Brgy. Caningay, Candoni town in Negros Occidental, 9:20 last night.
PO3 Joe Harry Peralta and PO1 Henry Vell Pacheco were killed in the ambush staged by suspected New People's Army fighters, Senior Supt. William Señoron, Negros Occidental OIC provincial police director, said.
Lawyer JV Hinlo said he filed his irrevocable resignation as a member and president of the PDP Laban in the Negros Island Region effective yesterday following the no-show of presidential aspirant Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte at a gathering of supporters at the Barangay Tangub gym in Bacolod City Wednesday afternoon.
He said he resigned to show his sympathy and solidarity with about 5,000 Duterte leaders and volunteers from all over Negros Occidental and Oriental who waited inside and outside the Tangub gym starting before 3 p.m. until past 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

P1.5-M in ‘shabu' seized,
12 nabbed in Dumaguete

Twelve people were arrested and about P1.5 million worth of suspected shabu was seized during an anti-illegal drugs raid in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City, yesterday.
The police operations involved the serving of three search warrants in Sitio Canday-ong, Barangay Calindagan, under the One Time, Big Time program and Oplan Lambat Sibat of the Philippine National Police in the province.
Senior Supt. Harris Fama, officer-in-charge of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said that at around 2 p.m. yesterday, joint PNP operatives from the Negros Island Region office, the provincial police office and the Dumaguete City police station, with the local Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, swooped down on the suspects in Canday-ong.
