Vote counting machines faster,
better – Guanzon
Negros provincial election supervisors named

Commissioner Rowena Guanzon of the Commission on Elections yesterday assured that the new vote counting machines for the May 9 polls have proper safeguards, and will count votes faster and more efficiently.

Guanzon also disclosed that COMELEC chairman Andres Bautista has issued a reshuffling order naming Ian Lee Ananoria provincial election supervisor of Negros Occidental and Lionel Castillano for Negros Oriental.

She, however, said the reshuffling order was issued without an en banc resolution. She has asked for an en banc meeting of the Commission to discuss the matter on Tuesday, Guanzon said.moremoremore

GSO inventory set
for Monico's return

Rafael Coscolluela, provincial chairman of the Friends of Mar-Leni in Negros Occidental, yesterday said the prohibitive cost of campaigns will discourage deserving candidates from running for national posts.

Coscolluela said an electoral reform law is needed in order to level the playing field, otherwise only those with resources will be able to win national posts.

“The really deserving ones who should be occupying important positions won't even try,” he added. moremoremore

PNP simulated bomb threat
scenario held at EDC plant

The Philippine National Police in Negros Oriental held a simulated exercise on a bomb threat scenario at the geothermal power plant in Valencia town Wednesday.

The simulated exercise (SIMEX), conducted at around 11:25 a.m. at the geothermal power plant in Barangay Malaunay, Valencia town, is part of the inspection of the PNP Directorate for Police Operations-Visayas, headed by Police Director Orlando Domingo Ualata of the Public Safety Forces, Senior Supt. Harris Fama, officer-in-charge of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said.

The scenario that was agreed upon during a table top exercise and conference the day before was a “bombing” of a steam pipeline of the geothermal power plants of the Energy Development Corporation.moremoremore
